London, May IS. The Durham strikers have declined to accept a reduction of 19J per cent, in wages, and resolved to continue the struggle, At a special meeting of the Trades and Labor Council, Wellington, it was stated that circumstances had arisen during the last few days which led the council to believe it would be unable to raise the necessary money to establish a line of ’busses in opposition to the tramways in the interest of the public and the men who had held out. It was therefore decided to declare the strike at an end. At a meeting of the strikers this resolution was endorsed, and a motion passed declaring that the council had done everything in their power to bring the strike to a successful issue for the strikers. Of the 29 men who went out 10 returned to the Tramway Company and 10 found other employment. The Trades Council will obtain work for the men who held out till the last, IMPERIAL POLITICS.
