BIBLE SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of Geraldine branch of tho British and Foreign Bible Society was held at the Presbyterian church on Wednesday evening, Dr Fish presidbig, TJie attendance wa.i fair, and during the evening a united choi ■ from reverJ, churches sang hymns with the congregation. ANNUAL REPORT. The Rev A. B. Todd read tho annual report as follows : «'Ju February, 1891, Geraldine was favoured by a visit from the Rev. H. T. Robjohns, M.A., agent in Sydney of the British and Foreigh Bible Society, who revived in some breasts an interest in the work which he represented. Two mouths jatcr the Rev. Wm. Gillies, of Timaru, delivered a lecture in the Presbyterian Church on the work of the society; and at a public meeting' then held it was resolved to establish a local branch of ihe South Canterbury Auxiliary. Soon afterwards twelve collectors were appointed for Geraldine and tho susronmling districts, and their labors met with very •/ratifying buccosh. As tiro result of their efforts £l2 11 s kayo been subscribed and forwarded to Timaru, and the "committee have appointed May and Noxomber the dates for collections. The committee have had under consideration a proposal to receive samples from the depot in •pimaj'li of Bibles, &c.; and have arranged with Mm Gibson to exhibit there. The Ucv. Mr Robjohns paid his annual visit last month, an,d expressed satisfaction I with the amount of work that had been •done, .urn? th© success achieved. The
committee in retiring from office congratulate the society on the record of its lirst year’s operations, and express the hope that it may flourish more and more.” The balance sheet showed, receipts £l6 Is lOd, and expenditure leav ’ug a balance in hand of £1 7s 4d. Thu report and balance sheet wore adopted, and the Rev. Mr Tcdd moved a hearty vote of thanks to the collectors, wh’ch was seconded by Mr Moore, and carried, ELECTION or OFFICERS. The ; following comprise the officers for the present year President, Dr Fish (re-elected) ; secretary and treasurer, Rev. A. B. Todd; committee, Messrs J. Shaw, J. M. Sutherland and H. W. Moore. The meeting then closed with paise and prayer.
