GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.
The montly meeting of the above was held yesterday. Present—Messrs F. R. Flatman (chairman), Deßenzy, Metcalf, and Kelland. TENDERS. Tenders were received as follows : No. 350, shingling repairs, Geraldine road : Maurice Lawlor £69 13s 4d; Tirnoty Sugrue £66 ; Daniel Gregan £65 10s (accepted). No. 351, Broken metal, Gapes's Valley Road : Timothy Sugrue £298 16s 8d; Thomas Corkery £219 13s 4d (accepted). No. 352, Cleaning drains, Swamp road, Geraldine Flat : Joseph Kennington, £8 16s. This was the only tender, and was considered too high and was not accepted. correspondence. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : From Mr Henry Nalder, Lyttelton, asking for reply to letter sent by him to the Board.—-Reply sent. From Mr C. G. Tripp, Orari Gorge, asking to have work done to prevent water going down Fifield's Road—To stand over till after the annual election. From Manager, Bank of New South Wales, Geraldine, informing the Board that £36 14s Id had been received for the Boards credit from the Receiver of Land Revenue. From Mr John Crow, Hilton, calling attention to the state of the road leading to his farm on the Hilton Downs—Mr Shiers to report. From Mr C. G. Tripp, calling attention to work required on the road by Mr McLeod's house—Ford to be attended to ; Mr Tripp to be asked if he will allow shingle to be taken from his land for the shingling of the road he complains of.
From Thomas Markham, wanting a road formed through the riverbed to connect the road to Palmer's to Rangitata Station Road, the old track being about to be fenced in.—The overseer to report. From Mr Garforth, Hilton, asking the Board to make a division of the River Kakahu, opposite Mr Meredith's, Section 24411, to prevent the overflow and damage to the road.—The overseer to report. From the Receiver of Land Revenue, informing the board that the sum of £36 14s Id had been lodged in the Bank of New South Wales on account of the board for " thirds " accrued. From the Clerk County Council, Timaru, sending forms of return for the annual balance required by the Government.—To be attended to. INTERVIEWS. Mr Alfred Dunford, surfaceman, waited on the Board to ask permission to have his son work for the Board in his stead on odd days when he happened to be called away from his work.—Granted on the condition that Mr Dunford does not need his son more than once or twice in a month. Mr G. South waited on the Board, applying to have a drain near his property, cleared out. —Mr South to undertake the job and be paid by the Board. Mr Gilbert, Gapes's Valley, waited on the Board re the road leading to his bush and asked to have it formed to his gate. — The overseer to report. Mr McQuillan waited on the Board applying to live the drain, near his property, cleaned out.—Mr McQuillan to do the work and be paid half the cost. overseer's report. The overseer's report was as follows : " The works on hand have made fair progress during the month. The undermentioned have been attended to, and are in hand at present: Stone pitching at bridges, Beautiful Valley Gorge; repairs to protective works at Belfield, V.S., channels and stop-banks at Templar's ford, Pleasant Valley ; painting and tarring stock and footbridges; cutting at Boundary road, Hae-Hae-te-Moana. I have also arranged for work to be done at Finlayson's Creekj to prevent overflow. Works required: The main road between Hilton and the Kakahu road, requires to be repaired with shingle, also the road north of Finlayson's Creek leading towards Mr Tripps. In the latter case the shingle would have to be hauled a considerable distance unless it could be obtained from Mr Tripp's freehold, adjoining the road. Creek Fords: As instructed, I have notified the property owners stopping back the water on the roads through obstruction in the creeks and natural outlets for race and flood water. In some cases the work required has been done, in others the fords are still flooded, rendering it difficult to get sheep across. Balance sheet.- I have prepared the annual balance sheet, showing the receipts and expenditure for the year ended 31st March 1892.—1 have, etc., "Wm. Shiers, " Overseer."
The report was read and considered satisfactory, and works required were held over for another month. GEE,ALPINE KOAI). Resolved —" That Mr Lewis be written to, and requested to level up the side of the Goraldine Road where lie has ploughed, and sow the same with grass seed, within 14 days from date; failing which the matter will be placed in the hands of the board's solicitor." THE ANNUAL MEETING. It was agreed to hold the annual meeting of the board on May 2nd. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £llO 15s Id were passed for payment. The board then rose.
