From Mr E. Cutten, asking permission to have pipes laid across footpath at new building near Mr Dann's.—Work had been done. From Mr A. It seemed to show right across the street. A little discussion ensued, and it was suggested that a reflector at the back of the lamp would be an improvement, and this was agreed to.—Mr Storey also mentioned that Mr Mcßratney had spoken to him about the flooding of a section occupied by him, by storm water from Birkett street. The overseer made an explanation concerning the same. The bulk of the water complained of came through a natural gully.—After some discussion it was resolved—" That the board inspect the place and take action if necessary." RATES. There being still a considerable amount of rates outstanding it was resolved to continue suing for same. The names of twelve persons were selected by lot. OVERSEER'S REPORT. The overseer's report was to the following effect: —Gratings had been placed at street drains. Since the formation of Thomas street a considerable flow of water entered a natural gully by means of a culvert put down by the Road Board. This culvert ought to be lengthened, as it was apt to be choked by dray traffic. Notice had been issued to twelve defaulting ratepayers, and all bad paid without Court proceedings. A list of defaulters to date was upon the table. Certain work was reqnired in Birkett street in the shape of metalling. The driving of tradesmen's carts into water tables and across footpaths was a source of great annoyance, and demanded prompt attention. It was resolved that ruts in Birkett street be filled in, and that a light coating of shingle be placed thereon. accounts. Accounts to the amount of £45 4s 6d were passed for payment.

BOARD OF HEALTH. The board then resolved into a Board of Health. The inspector of nuisances reported on one or two nuisances unabated. The overseer drew attention to the nnisance at the back of the Temuka Hotel. The drainage was most defective, and the open drain required to be replaced with pipes, well covered, and flushed. Mr Storey corroborated the chairman's remarks. The smell was most offensive. It was resolved to give the occupier notice to abate the nuisance at once. It was also decided that the inspector take action in regard to a nuisance constantly occurring at the rear of premises next Mr Taylor's old shop. The question of drainage caused a good deal of discussion, the board being fully aware of the difficulty owners experienced in getting rid of refuse water, etc., from town premises.—No resolution was arrived at.
