Cricket. —The Interprovincial cricket match, Canterbury versus Wellington, was commenced at Christchurch, yesterday. The weather was beautifully fine, and the wicket in fine order. Canterbury wen the toss, and sent Wellington into the field. At 2.30 p.m. Christchurch had made 116, with the loss of eight wickets. Nearly 2,000 medical men accepted an invitation to witness some experiments in hypnotism in London. A feature of the display was the putting only one side of a man’s body in a cataleptic state, so that needles could bo thurst into it with impunity. The operator, professes to cure epileptic fits, and to be able to render people about to be operated upon insensible to pain; and a committee of the doctors was appointed to test some of his experiments with hospital patients.
