AN APPEAL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir. —Will you kindly allow me to make use of your columns to draw attention to the case of Malcolm Geddes, and to enlist the public sympathy on his behalf. Whilst working in the harvest fields he was suddenly taken ill, and Dr Hayes being called in, pronounced his case to be most serious, in fact, a very dangerous operation had to be undertaken at once in the hope of saving his life. The operation was successfully performed by Dr. Hayes, assisted by Sir W. Blunden, and the patient isj now happily out of danger. His small earnings are exhausted, and his work for the season lost. On his behalf, therefore, I propose to hold a concert in the New Schoolroom on Wednesday, 16th inst., and to hand the proceeds to Mr Geddes. Several ladies and gentlemen have already promised their kind aid in making up a programme. May I appeal to your readers to attend the concert, even at the cost of personal inconvenience and self-sacrifice, and thus carry into practice the spirit of Lenten fasting and selfdenial. (Isaiah 58. 6-7.) —Yours, etc., Thomas A, Hamilton,
