FOOTBALL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sie, —In connection with the annual meeting of the Temuka Football Club to-night, I think a few remarks on the play last season will not be out of place. Onlookers at the matches played by our men against foreign teams could not fail to notice that we had some very good men in the first and second fifteens, many of them superior to any player among their opponents, hut still they lost matches. I think some of the errors made last season could have been easily rectified if the men had taken the trouble to alter their style of play. Very often you would see this sort of thing happen : A Temuka man would go through with the'ball straight for the goal line and fall into the arms of the opposing full back, simply because there was no one to I back up. The match against Linwood at I at Christchurch was lost simply through this one fault, instead of easily won. Individual play will not do. Our men must go in for combined work if they expect to come out at the top of the poll. Another error amongst the backs was that of holding on to the ball too long instead of either kicking well down into touch or passing back. The forwards deserve great credit for their play, but should have heeled out smarter than they did, and also should have come up quicker on the line out, and too often forgot there was a penalty attached to offside play. I hope there will be a good muster at the annual meeting to-night, and that a successsful season is before the club, which I am sure there will be if the teams attend practice, go in for combined play, and always Keep on the Ball.
