CRICKET.

The Temuka team were not satisfied with their two defeats at the hands of the Colonial team, so they journed in to Timaru on Saturday to play them onoo more. The match was played on the Athletic Club’s ground. A very good wicket was provided, but just a trifle soft. The Temuka men were first to bat, two of them getting into double figures, Mendelson with 26, McLean 11. There is no x doubt the former player with experience J will make a very fair bat, and the latter player,, who plays in a pretty style, will always score as he gains more confidence. The innings closed for 71 runs; Philpott taking half the wickets; but the bowlers were not aided by the fielders as they should have been. After the visiting team had done justice to the refreshments generously provided by their opponents, they went into the field with the determination to do or die; Dignan and Hayhurst, the Temuka bowlers, were both “ on the job ” and being splendidly backed up by the fieldsmen all round, soon had the last of the Colonials out for the small score of 30 runs, none of them getting into double figures. There still being a - short time left for play Temuka again went in and when stumps were drawn had lost four wickets for 28 runs, E, C, Dauu 10, Brown 9, Morrisey 2, McLean 0, Hayhurst not out 3, McCaskill not out 2, extras 2, The victory of the Temuka men is due to their having gone in for more practice since their last defeat, and , although they expected to win they didr not think their victory would be so decisive, especially as their captain, Bryars was not playing.
