CHRISTCHURCH GRAIN MARKETS.
Messrs H. Matson & Co, (associated with the National M. and A. Company of N.Z., Limited), report for the week ending February Isth, 1892, as follows: The bad weatder that prevailed at the end of last week has proved itself disastrous in many respects, and has cast quite a different aspect over the prospects that appeared so favourable prior to this. Harvesting has been delayed in consequent, and although the, firm, drying weather oftheWst lev days will help it to again proceed, the damage must be beyond recovery where the crops were exposed. Wheat. Farmers who had secured their wheat before the recent bad weather wifi no doubt be inclined to be firmer in their ideas. However, there is nothing doing just now, nor has the market yet opened. We still indicate 3s 6d to 3s 9d as market values for milling. Chick feed is sure to be plentiful, and we may see a glutted market jator on, Cats. The market is rather weak, and business of a dragging nature, at Is 8d to la lid. As with other grain, bright samples may be more readily sought after when the extent of damage is known. Barley. We have soon very little offering, although sales
are reported at 3s 3d to 3s 4d, which is, no doubt, about the mark. Feed has sold from Is Od to Is 9d. Grass Seed.— Ryegrass continues to be offered freely at 2s to 3s for farmers’ samples and 3s 6d to 3s 9d for town-dressed. Peninsula cocksfoot is not offering yet. It is feared a deal of damage must have resulted from the rain. Some samples gathered nearer have been sold down to 3d, but we shall look for more money for bright, heavy seed. North Island grown has been offered at up to 3Jd. Beans are offered at 3s. Peas—Blues 3s to 3a 3d, feed 2b 6d to 2s 9d. Butter. —Dairy 7d. Cheese 4d. Quotations f.0.b., sacks extra.
