GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above board was held on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs A. White (chairman), A. Sherratt, W. S. Maslin, R. Hammond, J. Williams, N. Dunlop, and J. Mundell. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows From the Secretary of the Charitable Aid Board, notifying that the board’s second moiety was overdue.—The clerk to write and explain that the money had been paid to the County Council on the Bth December. From Mr E. Holloway, drawing attention to the urgent necessity of a drain to take the surplus water from the section fronting Talbot and Wilson streets. Something should be done in the matter as serious results to health might ensue. —The inspector to visit the premises, and complete the abatement of the nuisance at once. REPORTS.

The ranger,s report on stray cattle and the overseer’s report report on work dona were read.

PETITION. The following petition was read from twenty residents :—“ We, the undermentioned, request that the Town, Board will re-cohsider their decision, and allow the water to run in the side channel on the west side of the main road. Besides adding to the beauty of the town the water was a boon to the householders upon that side of the street; the water also adds considerably to the sanitary condition of the town. The channel, which at present is unsightly and a receptacle for all. manner of impurities, was kept clean and pure by the flow of water.” Mr Dunlop moved, and Mr Williams seconded—“ That the petition receive the hearty support of the hoard, and that the request be granted.”—Carried unanimously.
