HILTON SCHOOL TREAT.

The annual school treat in connection with the Hilton School came off' on Friday last in spite of an unavoidable postponement from Thursday on account of the rain, and turned out more successfully than in former years. The attendance was very large, and the utmost enthusiasm and good feeling prevailed; the members of the committee and teachers working hard to please everyone, and their efforts were abundantly successful. About one o’clock a hearty meal was served out to all, the viands being exceptionally good. A long programme of sports was then gone through, including running, wrestling, vaulting, etc. Some of the lads vaulted capitally, and in other events showed themselves to be very active. About 4 p.m. an adjournment waa made to the large room of the sehool, ndiere a handsome lot of prizes Were distributed. The sphool comiqittee presented GYQry pupil who a standard with a beautiful book, and a number of pretty prizes were given for sewing. The committee’s thanks are due to Mrs John Hay and Mrs •Jqh" Kclhllu for presenting several valuable prizes for sewing, and Mr P. W. Hutton and Mr of Timaru, for foqd attendance prizes and' to Mrs and liss Patterson for acting as'judges of sewr ihg. Mr R. ' Most of the children and parent? then made a start lor home, but a number of young men and maidens remained, and had a pleasant dance for a couple of hours, and this brought the treat to a very pleasant conclusion. The head master, Mr G, Steven, is to be congratulated for his I,access in training the Children, and 1 the goodwill which characterises their behaviour.
