ENGLISH AND FOREIGN MARKETS. London, Jan. 4. Owing to the keen competition of the Tyser line, freights by the Shaw, Saville, and Albion Company’s steamer Pakeha, direct to New Zealand, have been fixed at 255. Freights by the company’s sailing vessels have been reduced to 20s. Some cases by the Orizaba branded prime new Victorian dairy butter realised only 955, as the dealers declared that the consignment consisted of old butter.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Christchurch, have received the following cableadviec from tjieir London office, dated Jan. 1, IS‘.)2 :
Frozen Meat —There is rather better demand for New Zealand mutton ; quotations unchanged since last telegram. New Zealand beef market firmer; price of beef has advanced £d per Ifi since last report
