TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Temuka Town Board was held last evening. Present —Messrs J. Blyth (chairman), P. Coira, G. Mason, and S. Clinch. ' CORRESPONDENCE.
Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From the Postmaster General inviting snbeription to Postal and Telegraph Guide.—Received. -From Mr D. Taylor, asking for permission to lay pipes for roof water across the' footpath.—Granted. From Messrs Duncan, Cotterill, and Martin, stating that *six maps of the
township of Wallingford had been forwarded, postage to be refunded.-—The clerk said he had refunded the postage as requested. From Mr W. Badger, inviting subscription for new edition of New Zealand Statutes to January Ist, 1892. From Geraldine Road Board, approving of Temuka Town Board’s action re the electoral district.
’ From Mr -W. Smith, Timaru, re- • questing that his name be taken oft’ the rate roll for sections 319 and 320, and the name of Mr S. Cain substituted.— Alteration to be made in usual way. From Mr J. Talbot, inviting chairman and' members of Town Board to the opening of the Waitohi water works on 6th inst, at 1 p.m.
A StoN-E Guard. • The chairman said he had a matter to bring before the board. Mr Dignan complained about a stone In front of Mr E. Brown’s store, against which he had stumbled and got hurt, Messrs Coira and Clinch said the stone had been put there for the protection of the kerbing. .The chairman said he thought if anything happened to anyone they would be liable for damages. Mr Mason said there were no stones at other corners. The matter was discussed at some length, in the course of winch if \yas said |hat a|l horsp posts should be cut down also. It was decided to postpone the . question until next meeting, AgPUAUT UUNTUACT, > A letter was read from Mr W. M Monahan, asking for progress payment of £loon asphalt contract no 40. Members thought the contractor ought to have proceeded more rapidly. The clerk stated Mr Monahan had requested him to state that if tine
weather prevailed he expected to finish the work in a fortnight. The time of the contract having nealry expired, the clerk was directed to iusturct Mr Monahan to push on the contract as quickly as possible. The progress payment asked for was passed. overseer’s report. The overseer reported that the asphalting contract had hardly progressed as well as could be wished, partly owing to the showery weathory recently experienced, and partly owing to the observance of the public holidays. As directed, he had a number of clamps made for strengthening the kerbing on Railway Terrace, and driven in where deemed necessary, and he considered they answered the purpose intended very well. He had some necessary work done to the well on Railway Terrace. Rates showed little improvement in the way they were coming in. His attention had been drawn to gorse clippings having been allowed to remain in the water channels in Birkett street, and to a light fence in Godfrey street, abutting 2ft on the road, erected to keep stray cattle oft the proper fence line. He had written to the offending ratepayers, requesting that the by-laws should be at once conformed with. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £3B 7s 2d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
