CONCERT AT WINCHESTER.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—With reference to the disturbance at the recent school concert at Winchester, and in justice to the young men of the community who are blamed for disorderly conduct upon that occasion, I may state ihat I was present at the concert, and happen to know that the annoyance complained of proceeded entirely from two visitors from Temuka, whose position in society ought to have ensured difLi-oht behaviour. Possibly they thought that as it was only a" country affair," and they would be unknown, they were at liberty to disgrace themselves by conduct unworthy of gentlemen (!) Had the members of the School Committee risen to the occasion they would have returned these " society lrarikins " their entrance money and demanded their immediate exit. Winchester gatherings have always been noted for their orderly conduct and decorum, and it is only just that the odium now resting upon the community at large should be shifted to the right shoulders. —I am, etc., Justice. to the editor. Sir,— Kindly allow me space for a few words upon the chairman's remarks at the late school concert at Winshester, as reported by you in Tuesday's paper. The abominable conduct complained of proceeded from two young men whose position in society would lead one to expect that they were capable of conducting themselves as gentlemen, and not as beasts. It is said that drink makes a mar a beast, but I was not aware that the said beast was of the cat tribe. I hope that Temuka will keep their cats at home, or, better still, sell them to Mr Acton Adams. I am sure that they would soon scare all the rabbits. I am, &c, Sufferer. Winchester, Dec. 30th, 1891. a .
