Barley—Malting, 3s to 3s 3d ; milling, 2s 4d to 2s Od ; feed, 2s to 2s 3d. Pearl barley, £l3. Oats—Be t milling and seed, Is 8d to Is 9d ; bright plump feed range from Is 7d to Is 8d ; other sorts, Is 5d to Is 6d—all sacks extra, oft trucks, and ex store. I Flour—Roller, £l3, f.0.b., Timaru; stone, £l2 ss. Oatmeal—£B 10s to £lO 10s. Bran, £3. Sharps, £4. Potatoes—Old potatoes not now saleable. New kidney, £6 to £7 per ton. Pigs— 1401 b to 1601 b, .well fed, 2id to 2£d, and scarcely buyers at that low figure; large sizes not saleable ; hams, 7d; bacon, sd. ChafF—Up to £3, and is very scarce. At auotion on Tuesday last week's prices were maintained. Country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, brought Is 9d to 3s lOd; do do merino, Is 8d 3s 3d; full-woolled, 4s 4d to 6s 4d; do do merino, 4s to 6s 3d ; butchers' green croaßbreds —best, 6s 9d to 6s 3d; selected, 6s 6d to6s9d; good to best, 5s 3d to 5s 8d ; medium to good, 4s 3d to ss; green merinos best, 4s 6d to 5s 6d; medium to good, 3s to 4s 4d ; green crossbred pelts, lid to la 7d; lambskins, lOd to Is 5d each. Hides.—The market for these continues stationary, while all coming forward find buyers. Quotations for heavy sorts in good condition, 2*d to2*d; 651 b and upwards, 2f dto 3d; country hidesaverage weight l£d to 2d, light ljd to l£d, inferior, J d to Id per lb. Tallow.—A moderate business is being transacted. Prime rendered mutton, 18s 6d to 19s 6d ; medium to good, 16s to 18s ; inferior to medium, 13s to 15s. Rough fat is in good request and selling freely, best caul fat fetching 12s 9d to 13s 6d; inferior to medium and good 9s to 12s 6d per cwt. DUNEDIN WOOL SALES. Dunbdin, Dec. 17. The first wool sale of the season was held to-day. 2850 bales were offered, and nearly all were disposed of. There was n good attendance of buyers, including representatives for Home manufacturers. Bidding was spirited, and in some instances keen. Values were scarcely equal to last year's, but the wool was not in quite the same condition. Making allowance for this there was very little change in values, perhaps £d to Id decline in merinos. Good halfbred brought 9d to 10d, medium BJd to Bfd, crossbreds BJd to 9|d, merinos s£d to Bd. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, Dec. IG. Wheat, chick, 4s 6d to 48 9d; milling, 5s 6d, nominal. Oats, 2s 4d to 2s 6d. Maize, 2s 3d to 2s 4d. Peas, 3s 9d to 4s. Bran, ll£d- Pollard, 10 Jd. Butter, dairy made, 8d; factory-made, 9d. Cheese, 4d to 6d. Bacon, 6d to 8d; New Zealand, B£d ; hams, New Zealand, Hid. All the above prices are duty paid. At the wool sales sellers hardly realized the altered condition of the Homo market, consequently many parcels were withdrawn owing . to the high reserve. Best scoured was paused in at Is 4£d, greasy sold at 7d to Bjd, scoured lOd to Is lgd. Dec. 17. Potatoes are quoted at £2 10s to £3 per ton. Melbourne, Dec. 16. Wheat, 4s 6d to 4s 7£d. Oats, Algerian, Is lOd; Danish, 2s Id. Maize, 3s 3d. Barley, quiet, new crop, 3s 6d to 3s 9d. Peas,2s2£d. At the wool sales good lots were strong, while inferior sorts were weaker. Scoured lid to Is 3d. Adelaide, Dec. IG. Wheat, new crop, 4s 7d to 4a 8d; old, 4s 9d quiet. Flour, stone-made, £lO 5s to £lO 15s ; roller-made, £ll 5a to £ll 15s. Oats, New Zealand, 2s 3d to 2s 4d. Barley, Cape, 2s 6d to 3s 6d; English malting, 3s 6d to 456 d. Bran, Is. Pollard, Is. ENGLISH AND FOREIGN MAIIKETS. London, Dec. 1(7. The wool sales closed to-day, the biddings being fairly spirited up to the end. 111,000 bales were sold for the Continent, 9000 for America, 66,000 for Home consumption, and 500 were held over. Compared with opening prices, superior merino and crossbreds were a trifle higher, very burry sorts were easy, and others unchanged. On the whole prices have been irregular. Three months' bills have fallen a quarter percent. The Financial News declares that it is obvious that the people of New Zealand cannot bear the strain of excessive taxation much longer. There is a prospect of the Bank rate of discount being reduced to 3 per cent, on Thursday. Dec. 10. Mr Burke, of Melbourne, in the course of an interview, declared that the Fresh Food Company of Australia had the highest chance among the world's producers in exporting butter to London, and in the event of the finest quality being shipped, the Normandy and Danish article would succumb. He calculates that next season England would absorb 200 tons weekly of first quality, and he recommends that next season the packages be equalised, in order to prevent loss ,to shippers. Colonial stock are easier owing to the approach of the holidays.
