THE Temuka Leader. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1891. MUNICIPAL AMENITIES.

They had about the most delicious little bit of a breeze in the Tiniaru Borough Council last Monday evening that it would be possible to concieve. The world-renowned transactions of the Pickwick Club Avere nothing to it. The toAyn clerk announced that Councillor Sherratt Avas the only candidate nominated as Mayor, and had consequently been declared duly elected. A lit of uncontrollable envy seized a miserable little creature called Foley, avlio has by some extraordinary accident crept into the Council as a member of it, and he got on his hind legs and proceeded to speak most depreciatingly of the neAv Mayor. Mr Shex’ratt Avas not fit to be a Mayor, and unless he Avithdrew from it, he (Mr Foley), Avould resign. Mr Sherratt, the iibav Mayor, thought it Avould be a God send to the Council if ■Mr Foley resigned. The present Mayor—Mr D, M. Ross—Avith that tact and sense of justice characteristic of him, came to the rescue of the Mayor elect, and sat upon the recalcitrant Foley, avlio Avith his last breath threw out a dark hint that the neAv Mayor Avould have to take the Councillors to the end of the Avater race. In all our experience avc have heard of nothing so ill-bred as the conduct of Mr Foley. It is too loav to be characterised in language that could be printed, but knoAving what a miserable toady he is Ave cannot say that Ave are much surprised at it after all, Mr Sherratt is a very respectable, honest man, and the oldest Councillor in the borough. He Avas asked to become Mayor, and he consented, and no one else coming fonvard he Avas elected, and for this a miserable little creature avlio is not fit to clean his boots insults him. The Mayor-elect no doubt spoke the truth Avhen he said it Avould be a god-send to the Council if Mr Foley resigned. It Avould be a god-send to the nation to be rid of the likes of him.
