BICYCLE RACE.
A large number ' of persons collected yesterday afternoon to see the bicycle race - which ;took place? on the' foad to Winchester and bach. The course lay between the corner of the Temuka post "office 1 to"'the w Wolseley - hotel J ’aird -, ‘bsick. The weather was very favourable when starting, but all the way ito Winchester a head breeze was experienced, and the moment they faced back, the' wind veered round,' arid they' had to wo|k against a very strong breeze all tile ’way home. The entries were as followsJ. Henry started at Bmins 15secs past six o’clock, returned 38miu 32aec past 6, time on the road 30mins 17secs; J. Findlay started at lOrnins past -6, returned 39mins 9secs past six, time on the road 29iriins 9secs. J. McLean started at Bmins ISsecs past 6, returned 39mins lOsecs past six, time on road 30min 55secs ; J. Gillespie • started at lOtnins SOsecs, returned 39miua 12secs past six. time on the road 28mins 42secs; F. McCarthy, started with Gillespie, returned .Sseidt' ! ’ after him, time on the road 28mins ! 50secs ; W. Cooper started at ornins past 6, returned at 46mins past 6, timd f on tha road 41min. On the return horile brie of McCarthy’s shoes, came off, and this delayed him, as he had to alight and put it on again. The result 'therefore is ;: — J. Henry, 30mins l7tecs -’ i'A f 1 J.
