WOODBURY SPORTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Myself and others were greatly astonished when we read in your valuable paper the handicaps declared for the foathcoming sports to be held at Woodbury. I would like to point out a few specimens of seemingly unfair handicapping connected therewith. In the first place, take 440 yards : Orton, with a tenyards start, last year won easily, while Beckley, who had twenty yards, was nowhere. then, should Beckley have seven yards taken from him for not winning, arid only one yard from Orton who won easily ? Then, again, Leversedge, a maiden runner, in the mile has been put five yards ahead of the man who won it last year, and J. Evans, who came in second last year, is placed in front of l>im (Leversedge.) In the hurdle race Beckley, who Ipis never ran in a hurdle race before, gets only three yards start. Now, sir, handicapping such as this cannot but create dissatisfaction, and if the Woodbury Bports Committee wish to make their future meetings a success it would be well for them to use more discrimination in handicapping. —I am, etc., Fair Pray. Geraldine, 4th November, 1801.
