AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS.

Wellington, Oct. 9. Besides the extent of occupied land shown in the above table, 891,846 acres of unoccupied and unused freehold land were returned in the census schedules. Live stock—horses, 211,040; brood mares (included in the foregoing), 31,276; asses and mules, 348; cattle (including calves), 788,919; breeding cows' (included in the foregoing), 280,711; milch cows (also included in breeding cows), 206,906; sheep (including lambs), 19,865,423 ; breeding ewes (included in the foregoing), 7,371,429; goats, 9055; pigs, 222,553; total of all descriptions, 19,097,338. Poultry, 1,790,070. The Maori returns, which are not included in the above, show—sheep, 251,763; cattle, 42,912; pigs, 86,256.
