BICYCLE RACE.
Considerable interest was taken in a Bicycle Race, which took place last evening in Temuka. The course lay between the Temiika Postoffice and theWolaeley Hotel, Winchester, and back, and, in the presence of a goodly number of people, the competitors started as follows : miu. sec. W. McCarthy . scr The road was in excellent co /idiiion but the jurney to Winchester v,. m made* in the face of a breeze which, however* proved advantageous on the homeward journey. McCarthy did not run in good form, as h& had done it often before in considerablyless time, and if so the handicapping off> ! Messrs Smith and Whelan was very good.' Mr E, 0. Bauu acted as starter, but ft appears it would have been better if tb'ey had all started together, and madp the reductions as they came in. +fc T? - mce * p * d Princess of Wales and the liake of Olarence were present at thewadding of'the Earl of Dudley to Miss Rachaei Gurney on September 14, a notable event which is attracting the entire attention of society. The famous Dudley diamonds, as they hava been reset, consisting of six tiaras and parures, were displayed.
