Velvin. correspondence. „ Corespondence was read from the Education Board, stating that the services of Mis Harriet Sweet would be retained , uutilthe end of the year, and requesting I the ©mmittee to furnish an estimate for | the «ost of painting and distempering the ! school, and when it is proposed the work ! shoild be done. Trom the same, stating that the sum of £6 had been paid to the credit of the commrttee, that being the grant towards the graded floor. HEAD MASTER'S REPORT. The head master's report was read aft follows: " Sir, —I have the honor to submit the following report for the mouth of August:— Boys, Girls. Total. Average roU ... 183 166.2 349.2 Average attendance 150.7 136.5 287.3 Highest attendance 157 151 308 " Ii affords me pleasure to notify that the attendance of standard V. has at last increased, and that it is now satisfactory. That of standards VI. and VII. is also very- good. In the latter standard we have 13 pupils at present. During the year no less than 11 pupils were struck off the roll pf the standards VI. and VII. I enclose cheque for £2 14s 3d, being amount collected during current quarter. —I have, &c., "W. BrYARS." PAINTING. The secretary read » specification of the work required in the matter of painting and distempering the school buildings, and also furnished an estimate of the coat of stale. After a brief discussion it was jresolved—-" That a copy of the specification and estimate be sent to >he Education Board, and request them io. invite tenders for the work; which, it vas suggested, might be done in the midsimmer holidays." VISITORS* REPORT. Mr Brown reported that, in company with Mr McCankill, he had visited the school. He had taken special note of the condition of the buildings, and the interior walls and woodwork were in a disgraceful .condition. Some of the walls were in a really disgusting state. The fence at the back required wiring and nailing. The palings were very loose. The closet doors had been rehung. Ho dre* attention to the necessity for some improvements to the urinals. Mi Cooper concurred with Mr Brown's remarks re the condition of the buildings. If the school belonged to a private individual it would never be allowed to get into such a disgraceful state. SECONDARY, FBBS. Mr Storey brought up the question of secondary fees, and asked if the committee were not the proper medium for the collection of same. He understood some fees weie not paid, and this deprived the teachers of their percentage. The chairman thought it was a matter [ for the Education Board. They expected the head master to collect the fees, and would doubtless cause the proper steps to be taken to have the same paid. As far as he knew it was a question outside the committee's province. He suggested that Mr Storey might bring the.matter up at the next meeting of the Education. Board. Mr Cooper thought it was hardly worth while the committee interfering, as they received no benefit from the fees whatever. The subject then dropped. suggested sports. The question of holding some sort of sports gathering prior to the midsummer holidays was briefly discussed, and a subcommittee consisting of Messrs Cooper, Russell, Velvin, McCaskill, and the secretary were appointed to arrange about the same. visitors. _^ Messrs Cooper and Storey were appointed visitors for the month, and the meeting terminated.
