THE CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I cannot let the fancy dress ball of our society pass by without expressing my grateful sense of the way in which it was carried out, and the support it received. The ladies were fair and fascinating; so graceful and charming, indeed, that it would be impossible from amongst them to select one of the fairest. They were fitted to grace a hall even more beautifully decorated than ours, and from the admiring comments I heard, it, as a ballroom, must have looked remarkably well. It suggested to me the dainty realms of Fairyland, and at times when regarding those shady alcoves I thought myself transported , to the corries of my dear native land. The supper-room, too, was beautifully decorated, and the catering superb. There might, perhaps, have been a few more flowers, but for the time of year the display was wonderful. [Over the whole beamed our noble chief, Mr A. M. Clark, who is a true Caledonian, every inch of him, and wears tartan as to the manner born. Long may he reign over our councils and preside at our gatherings, for a worthier president it would be hard to get. I can plainly see that' our society is destined to go on from strength to strength, especially while we bear in mind our motto “ Remember the people we come from,” If we emulate their deeds we shall in our turn “leave footprints on the sands of time” that can never be effaced.—l am, etc., L.M.C.S.
