GAPBS’S VALLEY CONCERT.

The schoolroom at Gapes’s Valley was nicely filled on Tuesday night last, when a concert and dance was held in aid of the school fund. Mr N. Dunlop occupied the chair at the concert, and spoke a few words complimentary of the teacher and the school, and the committee, after which a very long programme was gone through—so long, indeed, that it would take up too much space if we were to single out any of the performers for special praise; suffice it to say that all acquitted themselves creditably. Miss Boutcher opened the programme with a pianoforte solo, and then came the following songs, &c., by performers whose names precede them :Mr McCaskill, song, “ Steering Horae” ; Miss Andrews, song, “ Old Madrid” ; Mr Kroon, song, comic, “ I was in it,” and in return for an encore “I came from Temuka”; Miss Shand, song, “ She Wore a Wreath of Roses ” ; Mr Hoskins, song, “ The Old Rustic Bridge,” and responding to an encore “ I’ll Take You Home Again, Kathleen ” ; Miss Connolly, song, “ Killarney,” and for an encore “ Cornin’ thro’ the Rye ”; Mr W. Stonehouse, song, “The Scout,” and in response to an encore “ Only a Bit of Bunting ” ; Miss M. Kimbell, song, “The Old Rustic Bridge ” ; Mr ,W. Thomas, a recitation, and being encored he gave another; the school children then sang very sweetly “Far, Far at Sea,” after which an interval of ten minutes was called. The second half of the programme was opened with a banjo duet by Messrs Kroon and Post, for which they were encored; Miss Connolly, song, “ The Dear Little Shamrock”; Mr McCaskill, song, “ The Little Hero ” ; Miss Scobie, recitation, “ The Price of a Drink ” ; Mr Hoskins, song, “ It’s all over now with the Ladies,” and being encored sang the last verse over again ; Miss Andrews, song, “ Eileen Allanah ” ; the school children sang very nicely “ Sing Cheerily ” ; Mr W. Stonehouse, song, “Don’t You Think So, Rather”; Mr W. Thomas, a recitation, and for an encore gave another; Mr Kroon, comic song, “The Talkative Man from Galway,” and a stump speech, for which he received an encore, and sang “ All for the Sake of Sarah ” ; Miss Scobie, recitation, “The Bridal. Wine Cup”; Mr McCaskill, song, “ The Parson and the Clock.” This concluded the programme, and the chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to all who had helped In any way to make the concert a success ; also a special vote or thanks to Mrs Love for the great amount of time and energy she had displayed in connection with it. Votes of thanks to the committee of management and to Mr Dunlop for acting as chairman brought a very pleasant concert to a close. After the concert a dance was held, to which a large number remained, Mr J. Healey supplied the music, aud Mr Angus McKay acted as M.C., and Mr McCaskill’s catering gave unlimited satisfaction.
