GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Geraldine School Committee was held on Tuesday evening last. Present—Messrs R. H. Eearpoint (chairman), W. Shiers, W. S. Maslin, J. W. Pye, Eiordan, and A. White. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read as follows : From the South Canterbury Education Board, stating that the sum of £9 2s 6d had been paid to the credit of the committee’s account at the bank, From Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, M.H.R., stating that he regretted to hear that the school ground fencing had been a failure, and that he would be glad to subscribe £1 towards replanting. From the clerk Geraldine Town Board, forwarding'copy of resolution passed by that body with reference to clearing gorse scrub on Cox street —“That the application of the school committee cannot bo entertained, owing to there being a good road along Wilson Street.” JUVENILE LARRIKINISM, A letter was read from the head master informing the Committee that some time about the 10th August some person must have entered , the school ground, and, besides breaking off sharply three or four of the young trees planted last year in the neighborhood of the closets, have put some filthy writing in four places within the boys’ closet, signing at the end of it the name of a respectable boy attending the school. He hoped the committee would make an example of the culprit if he could be found. The chairman said that since receiving the letter the visiting committee had visited the school, seen the writing in question,and given the police instructions to find the culprits, which had been done, one boy having made a “ clean breast ” of it* It * was resolved—“ That further steps be taken, and the police be instructed to prosecute all the boys mentioned in the head master’s letter.” visitor’s report. i The visitor’s report was that the school was working satisfactorily, with the exception that the attendance was not up to the “mark.” „ >,, It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Marita. THE INFANT ROOM. The chairman said that the head master had made an application to have the gallery fixed in the infant room. The infant room had become so crowded that it was not healthy, especially now that summer was approaching. Mr Pye proposed, Mr Shiers seconded, and it was carried—“ That the attention of the Education Board be called to the crowded state of the infant room.” SCARLATINA. The chairman said he was glad to state that the supposed case o£ scarlatina had come to nothing, the lad only having a bad cold. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £2 14s were passed for payment. VISITORS. Messrs Riordan and Maslin were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. The meeting then terminated.
