The chairman stated that as they were aware in his report on the recent pupil teachers’ examination the inspector had recommended that Miss Sweet’s services be immediately dispensed with. This matter was to a certain extent out of their hands, but one they should consider in the interests of the school. He would be glad to have an expression of opinion upon the subject. Some discussion ensued. It was pointed out that the year was somewhat advanced, and to lose an old teacher at such a stage would be very detrimental to the scholars, as it could hardly be expected that a fresh one could take up the work efficiently. Mr Velvin,, "after a few preliminary remarks, moved-—“ That it be a recommendation to the board that Miss Sweet’s services be retained until the end of the year.” This was seconded by Mr McOaskill, and carried. visitor’s report. Mr Velvin, as visitor for the month, reported that the work of the school appeared to be going on in a satisfactory manner. The maps applied for were not yet to hand, and were urgently needed. The chairman stated that he had also visited the school. He noticed that two of the closet doors required rehanging, and some improvements could be made in the urinals and lavatory. A brick had fallen out of the north wall and should be replaced. A map of Australia was also required, as well as the two already applied for. Some little discussion ensued as to the carrying out of small repairs. It was pointed out that the funds did not admit of much expenditure in the direction of labor, and there were many little jobs that ought to be, and could be, done by the janitor. The chairman was requested to speak to the janitor on the subject, and the secretary was instructed to look up the terms of the- janitor’s agreement. The secretary was also instructed to write to the Education Board for the promised grant towards the graded floor. THE CONCERT. , The accounts in connection with the recent concert were gone into.
