CHRISTCHTJRCH CORN EXCHANGE. The following is the Corn Exchange report (per N. P. Meyers, Secretary), for the week ending August 14th : ' The 'wheat market remains unaltered as to prices, the conflicting cablegrams from various centres having had no disturbing influence on local values. Oats show no improvement. The seed demand is setting in, and really clean samples are worth a shade over quotations. Barley-r-But little 'offerin,' Peas —Hand-threshed,' true-to-name sorts, are wanted for seed, but buyers do not care to pay extreme rates. Grass Seed:—The usual spring enquiry is manifest, and wants* are being supplied from- both local and imported parcels ; f where really, clean; and a gopd sample, the local seed has most favor with buyers. Potatoes— No "■■■ improvement in prices can be noted, 'and quotations are nominal. Quotations are as follow : Wheat—Tuscan, 4s 3d; pearl, 4s 2d; hunters, 4s Id; second quality, whole, 3s Gd; broken, 3s to 3s 3d. Oate—Milling, Is lOd; short heavy feed, Is 9d; Jong inferior, Is 7d. Barley—Prime malting, 3s ; second quality, 2s Gd; feed, Is lOd to 2s. Peas—Hand-threshed blue prus, sinus, 8s ; feed, 2s 4d to 2s Gd. Beans—Unbroken. 2s IQd/fco 3s.

At the Addington yards on Wednesday the entry-comprised 9101 sheep, 8,57 cattle,,and(2ss pigs/ " Fat Sheep—There was a very large entry to hand, and the competition was very firm. Prices realised were On a par with late quotations. Best crossbred wethers sold at from 20s to 245; medium do, 18s 6d v to 19s 6d. Best crossbred ewes made from 15s' to 18s 6d; medium do, 12s to 14s. Merino wethers .realised from 13s[;to 19s 3d; medium do, 8s 6d to 12s—as per quality. Store Sheep—There was a large entry yarded. Competition was good, and prices realised satisfactory. Crossbred ewes in lamb sold at from 9s 6d to 15s 6d. Hoggets realised at from 10s to 12s 6d. Crossbred wethers and maiden ewes made from lis 6d to 15s 6d—as per quality. Backward stqreSj .such as,"merinos, were not in great demand, and sold at from 4s to 7s. Pigs—The entry was large, including some prime lines. Competition was but and pricles" show a decline on late quotations. Fat Cattle-r-The, demand on Wednesday was far from, being animated, the best cattle only commanding attention.,: Prices ranged from LlO to LlO 5s per head for best; small weedy and inferior'ligh't-weights from "L 4 t 6 L 5 10s and L 6 per head. ... r ; . Fail Lambs—A"' 'phenomenal entry of fat lambs, propped in ; ,April, .were sent to'hand. Prices ranged from 13s to 15s, Canterbury Horse Market —At Tattersall's 'on Saturday last 'the 'usual weekly horse sale was held. Cokh petition 1 was' good, and sales were effected with less .difficulty than of late. Best draught and farm horses, for which there was spirited;.competition, realised from LIS to L 23. Medium do sold well at from HI 10s to Ll 7. Hacks and light. harness horses sbld at from L 8 10s to LI 7 10s to L2l each.

Tallow —The demand continues fairly active, and all offering meet with a ready sale. Quotations : For medium to, good; rendered, 16s to 18s ; prime mutton a shade lower; inferior and mixed, ,12s to 15s. Rough fat is freely disposed of at, for best, 12s 9d to 13s 6d; inferior to medium and good. 9s to 12s 6d per cwt.
DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. At the Burnside Yards on "Wednesday fhe following business was transacted ■— Fat Cattle —327 head were yarded, 'three-fourths of these very medium
quality, only a few pens being good beef. A moderately was experienced for good quality t-but to effect sales of\ low-conditioned cattle very low prices had to be accepted. Best bullocks brought £7 os to £Blos ; one or two pens heavy weights to £9 ss; medium. £5 12s 6d to £G 17s 6d> light weights, £3 5s to £5 ; best cowsj £5 10s to £6 ss; 7 extra prime, £7 7s 6d to £9 ; medium to good, £3 2s Gd to £5 2s 6d; inferior and. light, ; £l,lss to £2 7s Gd. ; Fat .were penned, including 700 ' merino wethers (medium to good, with a few prime pens), the balance crossbreds ! < (about equal proportions wetliers and ewes), comprising several very prime pens of both, especially ;the;, former. The bulk ranged inequality from very poor to medium. The day's transactions were about, th e.> most .unsatisfactory experienced for a considerable time back. The sales opened dull, and continued so'down to the finish, prices ruling being lower than last week's by 2s to 2s Gd per head. Best crdsshrdd wethers brought 15s Gd to 18s. ordinary 13s Gd to 15s; best crossbred ewes 13s to 15s Gd, ordinary, 10s to 12s Gd; merino wethers, 7s Gd to 10s 3d,, extraprime toi3s,pd.j: ; j were 1 -jpenp§d| Prices were in favor of buyers.
