Plana were attached upon which to mark the road or part of road upon which money was to be expended, OVERSEER’S REPORT. The overseer’s report was read as follows : To the Chairman, « Sir, —I have the honor to report for the past month as follows: Contract No. 38, cleaning drain Barker’s road, is nearly completed, and a cheque has been drawn for payment when the work is finished. Contract No. 37 has been completed and passed for payment. As directed at last meeting I have driven three long iron rails at the end of Hawke’s road, Orari, and while the machine was there-I also had some driven at Penny’s road ford. This should divert the water from the end of Penny’s road, and prove a groat saving in the cost of keeping the ford open. There will be some shingle repairs need®! on the shingled roads throughout the district, and I would advise that tenders be called lor the work on the same lines as it was done during the last two seasons. Re Mr Murray’s application for shingle on the North Orari road.—The total length of this road i« about 350 chains, of which about 20 chains have been formed and shingled, leaving about 300 chains that have been formed a width of 46 feet and about 30 chains that have not yet been formed. The unformed portion runs through R.S. No, 14966. Asfar as I can learn it has not been dedicated to the Crown. I have marked the line of this road on the, district map, from where it his been diverted, in blue. If this part is dedicated it will require to be formed. Of the formed portion there is about 80 chains that requires to be recrowned, as it is considerably worn in the centre and does not throw off the water. This, however, would not be of much service if there is heavy traffic on this road. To shingle, say, one mile of the end next tlift Orari would cost about £—, the reforming would cost about £—, and to form the portion that has not been dedicated would cost about £—. Re drain referred to by Education Board, the drain referred to is what is known as the canal drain, running from the Middle Swamp road to the Boiling Down road, and there is about 80 chains of this in -which the Education Board are interested. The advantages to be gained by the board in having this drain deepened wotdd be that for the most of the length da]/ would be obtained from the bottom oi the drain which, when spread, would widen and raise the present formation. The road would also, be kept drier. The deepening this.drain an mwgg gi I
eighteen inches would be’: about £ — for the length proposed to be done. The books and balance-sheet have been audited.—l have, &c., “ F. Abcheb.” INTERVIEWS. Mr T. White waited upon the board, and applied for permission to rent a portion of Canal road fronting his section. —The board could not entertain the application. He also asked that a drain upon the Boiling Down road be cleaned. —The overseer stated that the drain was not likely to cause damage to the road, and the board could not entertain the request. Mr William Hawke attended in reference/to the charge of obstruction brought against: him’ in the - court, and wished for information as to complaining parties. He also spoke in reference to his application to rent roadline for crop, and asked if'the same could not be let that it should be opened up.—The overseer was asked to report upon the question of the road. No information could be furnished in regard to obstructing the road. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £53 17s 4d were passed for payment. The meeting then terminated.
