Francis Henry Benzoni was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment for stealing gold specimens from 'the Christchurch museum. The Bench declined to give him the benefit of the Probation Act as the thefts had taken place at different times. Father“ Well, what can you say for the young man ? ” Daughter : “ He’s young and handsome, and has good business ability.” Father “How do you know anything about his business qualifications?” Daughter; “ Why he has shown me again and again how nicely we could get along if you would make us a present of a couple of thousand pounds.” A hitch had occurred at dinner, and the hostess went out to see what was wrong. She found the cook intoxicated and in tears, sitting on the mutton. “What on earth is the matter, Jane ?” - “ It’s all right mum ; which, as it was a saddle of mutton, I put some horse-radish under it, and am going for a ride, but the blessed thing won’t gee.” Holloway’s Pills and Ointment.— Rheumatism and Gout.—. These purifying and soothing remedies deserve the earnest attention of all persons liable to gout, sciatica, or other painful affections of the muscles, nerves, or joints. The Ointment should be applied after the affected parts have been patiently fomented with warm water, when the Ointment should be diligently rubbed upon the adjacent skin, unless the friction causes pain, Holloway’s Pills should be simultaneously taken to diminish pain, reduce inflammation, and purify the blood. This treatment abates the violence, and lessens the frequency of gout, rheumatism, and all spasmodic diseases which spring from hereditary predisposition, or from any accidental weakness of constitution. The Ointment checks the local malady, while the Pills restore vital power.
