AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

The regular monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present— Messrs E. Brown, A. Russell, and A. Frew. Mr Brown was voted to the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read— From the Crown Lands Commissioner, covering copy of a letter of objection against the proposed garden reserves, signed by a number of settlers, and asking the board to make any comments upon the same and return by the 2oth June. —The clerk stated that on receipt of the letter he had written to the department, stating that the same would be dealt with at

a general meeting of the board.—lt

was resolved: “ That the clerk write , to the Land Board confirming the board’s previous letter, and pointing out that according to the plan for-

warded a right-of-Avay Avas left along the whole length of the creek.— lt Avas also suggested that the clerk point out that a number of those who signed the petition Avere not ratepayers, and that there Avere others anxious to have an opportunity of leasing the reserves, and that as soon as the matter Avas definitely in the hands of the board the valuable revenue Avould be

accruing. From the Property Tax Commissioner, covering form to be filled in to entitle the board to receive balance of subsidy on rates collected. From Mr E. Brown, asking that his name might be removed from the rate roll in respect of section No. 171, and that of Mr H. M. Miles inserted. Mr Miles signified his consent.'—Agreed to.

Gentlemen, —I have the honor to report that since last meeting the contractor for cleaning water-tables has gone through his work in. a satisfactory manner. His contract has now expired, and I await instructions as to the course to be adopted in future. He has been employed for 5J days during the month in filling ruts and general surface work. The bridge at Mrs O’Hara’s has been repaired in a substantial manner, and a plank has also been furnished for the bridge at the cemetery. Tenders were invited for scrimming and papering the . board’s cottages. No tender has yet been accepted.
