ACCIDENTS, FATALITIES, ETC.
Westport, July 6. A fatal accident took place at Lyell on Saturday. John Brown, a shoemaker, fell over a precipice, a distance of 40ft, and was instantly killed. He leaves a widow and five young children. The body of a miner, Thomas O’Callaghan, missing since Thursday, was found in the Lyell creek yesterday at the foot of a perpendicular precipice, 100 ft high. Deceased was 46 years of age and und unmarried.
Ashburton, July 6. On Saturday night John Kemp was riding across the Ashburton traffic bridge when the horse shied, throwing Kemp over the rails into the riverbed, a fall of 15ft. Kemp was taken to the hospital, and as far an examination was possible, no bones were found to be broken, but internal injuries are feared. Wellington, July 6. A man named Thomas Garvey, a late arrival from Sydney, a scale-maker by trade, was found with his throat cut in a house in course of erection in Hooper street, on Sunday evening. When discovered he was lying in a pool of blood, with a pocket-knife by his side. Medical aid was sought, but deceased never spoke. Garvey was sent to the hospital a fort- I night ago, suffering from fits. J
