“Spec” writes in the Timaru Herald :—The. senior matches came to a close last Thursday. Waihi are to the top of the list, having won three matches, scoring 12 points, to their opponents’ one. They stand six points in for the premiership while Timaru and Temuka are equal with 3 points each. Timaru have scored in the Senior Cup matches 23 points to 10 against them, Temuka 10 to 6. The Union have the unenviable position of last on the list, with only 1 point, and 29 against them. The Waihi are unquestionably Ihe best team and will win the premiership easily. They have a fine lot of forwards, while their backs are a fast lot. Timaru have been terribly cut up through losing the two Perrys and A. C. Matheson and Burt. They are likely to find themselves below Temuka next round, while the union will give them a tussle for the wooden spoon. Temuka are playing a good game and will carry second honour unless something unexpectedy occurs. The Union are practically out of it. They have some good forwards but their backs are not of equal merit.
