The House went into Committee of was moved authorising the renewal of deficiency bills to the extent of £716 000 v ; t , , The Premier said that the resolution before the Committee authorised the issue of these Bills under the Public Revenues Act. Most of the bills were bearing interest at 6 per cent,, and all the Bills were held in the colony by the various Trust Departments. £IOO,OOO of these Bills, which were held by the Colonial Bank of New Zealand, expired in March, 1892, and he hoped by that time to be able to make better arrangements. The motion was agreed to. EMPLOYEES LIABILITY BILL.
Mr Beeves moved the second reading of the Employers’ Liability Act Amendment Bill. He said that this -was one of the so-called Labor Bills of last session, which were thrown out by the. Council. The motion was agreed to. , SHOP HOURS BILL.
Mr Beeves moved the second reading of the Shop Hours Bill, providing that in cities and boroughs shops shall be' closed at 6 p.m. on four days of the week, one evening of one day at 9 o’clock, and one afternoon of one day at 2 o’clock. The motion was agreed to. FACTORIES BILL. Mr-Reeves moved the second reading of the Factories Bill for supervising, and regulating factories and workrooms. The motion was agreed to. and the Bill referred to a Select Committee. FEMALE FRANCHISE. The House went into Committee on the Electorbl Bill. Clapse fl. —“Interpretation*” J3ir,»fqbn Hall moved to insert in the clause a provision for female franchise. A, discussion ensued, in which Messrs Fish; ani'Scobie McKenzie opposed, and Messrs Rees, Buckland, and Sir George Grey supported it- . V ' .
