The Premier gave notice to move op Tuesday that Mr Perceval be appointed Chairman of Committees of the House; Mr G’Connor gave notice to move thajt the salary and work pf: the Chairmap of Committees be divided the chairmen of the several 'Sessional Committees^' 88-PLIES TO QUESTIONS. , Replying to Mr Rolleston, Mr McKenzie .said that the matter of taking, measures to check the growth of the Californian thistle had been undec the consideration of the Government. ... ... Replying, to Mr Thompson (Auckland) Mr Beeves said the system of charging quarter-money in primary schools was contrary to the spirit of the Education Act, and was therefore improper. His opinion was that Education Boards should put a stop to the practice, and if they did not, then the parents themselves should take the matter up. Palling that remedy Parliament should interfere in the matter., . Replying to other questions it was stated that the penny postage for the colony would come into force on the Ist October.
