TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above board was held on Tuesday last. Present—Messrs John Talbot (chairman), C. Bissett, and J. Fraser. COIBEBPONDINOI. -Correspondence was read as follows From the clerk Geraldine County Council, informing the board that the following resolution had been passed: “That ILe Orari bridge be put in thorough repair for wheel traffic, in accordance with the engineer’s estimate, and to use the present decking as far as it will go.” The width will, however, be reduced, Frem Mr F. H. Barker, asking that his name might be removed from the roll and that ef Mr F. Oldfield subalituted, in respect of E.S. part 8832, 8847,7184,3606. From the Executors of the late B. A. Barker making a similar request in respect of K.S. part 3606, 7211 8847 and others, that of Mr F. H Barker to be substituted. From Mr John Low, intimating thaft,Messrs Ward and Prattley agree to pay half the cost of cleaning drain by their premises. Frojii iMr H. Ford, as manager for the late Angus Macdonald’s executors, askirg that the name of Mr Jos. Seward be placed en the roll in respect of part Reserve 1351, containing 165 a. 2r 12p. From Mr W. Palmer, making . similar application in respect ef part R.B. 14,843 and 12,182, Mr Thos. Knight, jun’s., name to be substituted. From Mr J. H. Cambridge, for tho Ashburton Drug Company, drawing attention < to the superiority of the poisoned grain prepared by that company. From Mr B. If. Body, asking that his name may be placed oh the roll m respect of BS. 81,299, 81,800 and part 6927, in place of that of Mr Bees Thomas. From Mr B. Coles, asking that the name of Mr J. Pearce be placed on the roll in respect «f B.S. 2699. From Mr W. Hopkinaon, quoting price for blnegum timber, locally grown and sawn* From Mr Thos. Cadwallader, as one interested in the proposed deviation of the road dine west of sections 17,085, 17,949, 20,795, 24,496, 21,029, and 24,725, asking the board to accede te the propoeal. POISONED GRAIN. A sample of poisoned wheat was received from Mr E. 0. The question of the proposed road diversion'at Bangitata was discussed. The other party interested was the Colonial Investment Company, and Mr C. Bissatt said Mr Bolleston had seen the agent of the company, who had stated to him their views as to the proposed diversion. The company was agreeable, subject to some modifications he pointed out. The chairman said the diversion proposed would entail some little cost, although the proposed new Hoe would be cheaply prepared and cost little for maintenance. The clerk pointed out that the would considerably shorten ’ the road to the mouth of theßangitata. ;.V Ultimately it was resolved on the motion of Mr Fraser, seconded by Mr Bissett—“ that the board will agree to the deviation and alteration in road line asked for by Mr .Bolleston and Mr Cadwallader, provided the expense can be satisfactorily adjusted, and that no Objection is raised by the landowners interested; that the overseer . obtain ri an estimate of the probable cost, and also correspond with interested' parties, by the next meeting. of the board.” ' ■ ,C 01 1. VESTING-' OP RESERVES. The clerk was requested te furnish farther information as to the reserves likely to be vested in the board. . These are all required for gravel pm poses. APPLICATION. , The chairman stated that Mr Dalton had applied to him for two dram crossings to bis premises,—lt was to famish one crossing, the overseer to arrange for tho most suitable class of work. The overseer asked for the views of the board as to the putting in of concrete culverts in place of timber bridges across road drains, borne of the owners or occupiers would no 1 doubt ho prepared to meet the board in. the matter, —It was decided to leave tha matter to the discretion of the

The overseer’s report was read and dealt with as follows; “ To tbs Chairman. “ Sir,—l bars the honor te report for the past month aa follows; —The only contract now in hand is No. 36, deepening drain between Heaeares 933 and 939. I have arranged with the contractor to vary the conditions ander which thia work waa let.—Re Mr Fearce’a application for pipes : On account of the drain on the aide of the road fronting Mr Pearoe’a land, he has, when going from this direction, to go about fifteen chains beyond his hquu before he can get access to that part of the land on which the house is built, making a distance of about thirty chains ef extra travelling. Nine-inch pipes would carry the water that comas down the drain referred to.—Re Mr Rolleston’a application : —As far as 1 can learn there I would be no objection to the proposed deviation, unless it comes from the owners ef R.S. 25471, viz., the Colonial Investment and Agency Company.—Part of this section fronts on the lead it is proposed to close.—Very little work in the way of repairs, has been dona during the month. 1 have not been able to do the repairs authorised to bo done to the bridge on Walker’s road, as I could not get suirable timber l6t the job. lam now making out the now rate roll.—l have, etc., “F. Mason’s I application for alterations in front of his premises, made some time back, waa brought up, and'* the overseer having given an estimate of the cost of same it waa agreed to have the werk done. proposed bate. It was resolved to notify—“ That the board will, at its next meeting, strike a rate for the period ending March 31st, 1892,. of 0-I6ths of a penny in the £ on the rateable property in the district, such rate! being required .for general purposes, and also to meet the payment of £372 demanded by the Harbor Board, the rate to be payable on and after July 15th, at the Boad Board office, Temuka.” ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the- amount of '£B9 9g 7d were passed for payment, and tha meeting terminated.
