GERALDINE FLORAL SOCIETY.
The sixth annual meeting of the Geraldine Floral, Horticultural, and Industrial Association was bald in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Geraldine, on the evening of the 22nd, The chair was occupied by Dr Fish, president. The following report was read:— " Your committee have much pleasure in presenting to you their annual report on the work done by them, and the progress the society has made under their management. They have to congratulate you on the steady advancement of the society, as evidenced from the fact that when they took office a twelvemonth ago there was a balance to credit in the Bank of New Zeeland of L2 13s 2d, and to-day a credit balance of LB 17s Id. The receipts this year amounted LB9 4s 5d from all sources, and the expenditure
LBS 7 a 4d. Tha latter has beei somewhat heavisr than usual during previous years, owing to the holding of the spring show towards the clos< of last year when certificates of merit were purchased. Of these, however there are still a good number on hand The spring show was held as art ex periment, and was highly snccessfu in every respect, and both it and oui last annual one will compare mos favorably with these held in any othei district of a similar area to that o Geraldine; all the exhibits having been exceptionally fine Considering the very dry weather then experienced There are several suggestions am recommendations made by member of the committee from time to tim< which will come before you iu dm course this evening for your eonsidera tion. Daring the past year monthly meetings of the members were hel< for the purpose of discussing mat ten that came within the scope 'of thi society, and most interesting paper have been read on horticultural ant other subjects. Those members whi were present spent many a pleasan hour in bearing and taking part it such meetings, and have, no doubt profited by them, Your committee and the members generally have mast heartily to thank Messrs J. Griffin. J, Pye, G. H. Patrick, T, Harrison and J. W. Pye, for compiling these papers, who must have bestowed much time and care in giving their experience in and observation on the subjects treated by them. Your committee are pleased to note that some of the members have, by entering their exhibits at the shows of other societies held in' Temuka and Peel Forest not only challenged all-comers at shows, but have returned victorious, carrying back with them several valuable prizes. Your committee are also gratified to note that members of kindred societies in other towns exhibited at our last annual show, and largely shared in prizes in the gift of the society. They feel sure that at all subsequent shows held under the auspices of our society outside exhibitors will be most heartily welcomed. Iu conclusion your committee, in retiring from office, desire to thank the ladies who so generously helped to reader the spring and annual shows a success; also to the judges, class stewards, and others interested in the welfare of the society.”
The balance-sheet showed the receipts trom all sources, iucludiog balance from the previous year of L2 13s 2d, to have been LB9 4s 6d, and the expenditure LBS 7a 4d, leaving a balance in hand of L 3 17s Id carried forward for next year. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the former ordered to be printed. The following officers were appointed for the ensuing year President, Dr Pish; Vice-presidents, Messrs A. White, J. Williams, and B, B, Mac*
donald; Treasurer, Mr A. White; the election of the secretary was left with the committee ; Oemmittee, Messrs J. Leary, J. W. Pye, J, Pizzey, J. iMollroy, W. Storehouse, J. Pye, and J. Williams (the latter to act as chairman) ; auditors, Messrs J. W. Pye and 8. R. Macdonald. Several suggestions made daring the past year were referred to the newlyelected committee to deal with. The usual votes of thanks to the retiring committee and officers for their labors during their tenure of •ffice were passed by acclamation, and the meeting terminated.
