At Eveleigh last night a collision occurred between; a locomotive «n 3 a goods train. Tbe locomotive was runi ning on the intersecting track, and struck tbe goods train at right angles. 1 Both engines were badly smashed. Bertram,; the driver of the, goods train, was killed, his abdomen being ripped open, and the other ocaupants of the engine received a severe shaking,

In the Government returns of imports and exports for the'Australasian colonies for the year 1890, it is shown that the value of imports, including those of New; Zealand, waa £66,445,000, and of exports, £62,594,000. The total imports of wool was 103,825,0801bs valued at £4,049,000, while . the ! exports were 603,680,0001b5', valued at £24,593,000. The total import of breadstuff* was 5,533,000 bushels and the export 19,850,000. Yesterday afternoon a fearful accident occurred at Pawners' Islands, a township on the Claranca river, 'ibree youths were handling fireworks in a store when a speoimea known as " Jumping Jack " fired off and flaw into an open barrel of gunpowder, which was standing close at hand. A terrific explosion followed, the store being shattered to pieces, while the young fallows recived fearful injuries. One of them named Black has since died. Bobart, May 23.

The general election has proved disastrous to the Ministry. The Hon. C. P. Fitzgerald, a member of the Ministry without portfolio, was defeated. J'be Government will have only a small majority in the House.
