FOOTBALL.
On Thursday afternoon a match was played at Temuka between Civilians and Tolunteers, which resulted in a win for the former by sis points to two. The game was played with the utmost good feeling, and was fairly even until towards the finish, when the winners bad it pretty well their own way. For the Volunteer* Oarr, Bobinson, Q-oldstdne, and B. Lavery played well, while F. Storey did good service as full-back. Oarr and Lavery each secured a try. For the Civilians Q. Velyin, J. Anderson (captain), MoOallum, and McKinley showed good form. Anderson secured both tries, which Velvin neatly canverted into goals. Mr H. T. Clinch umpired for the Civilians, and Mr W. Storey for the Volunteers, and Mr J. W. Velyin carried the referee’s whistle. The result was unexpected, the defeated team being far and away the favorites/
