THE HOLIDAY.

On Monday next Her Majesty’s Birthday will be celebrated, and a close holiday will be preserved. At Temuka in the morning the Volunteers will parade at the Drillshed, and after firing the customary ft « d* joit will adjourn to the range to compete for the challenge cup and tradesmen’s prizes. These as usual ate numerous, those wary canvassers, Color-Sergt. Coira and Sergt. Levens having met with their usual success. In the afternoon a football match between the first fifteen of the local club and a team from the Linwood club will be played in the park. This is expected to be a most interesting contest, A match will also be played between Dacktown and Waihi. In the evening the volunteers will held a aocial in place ef their annual ball, and they are assured of a good attendance for no pains will be spared to make' the gathering enjoyable. The distribution of prises will take place in the course of the evening.

At Pleasant Point there will be a sports gathering. This has always peered of an enjoyable character, and as the proceeds are destined to augment the funds of the library and institute persons attending a ill feel that they are not merely haring a good time, but one helping in a useful work. In the Assembly Booms a sale of work and of produce will take place in connection with St. Alban’s Church. Under the circumstances people should have no difficulty in finding, some means of disposing of the last holiday prior to the severity of winter.
