YesU-rd-iy afternoon a number of the leading resid> nts of Geraldine, including e'ergym n, solicitors, businessmen, tradesmen, and pr<m<nent rußholders, and snttlerß in.ihe d strict waited upon Mr J. Cunntnghitni to present Mrs Cunningham and hitmen with a small souvenir of bis stay at Geraldine.

Mr C, Q. Tripp mad* tht presentation. In doing so he regretted that only a few gentlemen c >u'd be present that after, noon. On ing their stay in tbe district Mr and Mis Cunningham had woo for theiu'e've* a large number of friends, who could not bllow them to leave the district without in some way showing their ap* preciaiion of tbe great amount of kindness tb.y hid »lways received at ibeic bands. Mr Cunningham had taken a very keen in erest in both private and public matters that were calculated to advance the welfare of the district, and they felt they could not allow him to leave Geraldine without in some way showing their appreention of hit* worth. (Applause). Mr Tripp handed Mr Cunningham a parse of Kovereigt.B and a beautiful set of gold studs and sleeve links. He also asked him to accept on behalf of Mrs Cunningham, who was unable to be present, n beautiful silver teapot, elegantly chased, and lo be suitable inscribed.

In acknowledging the presentation Mr Cunningham said he felt as if be were acting exceedingly inconsistent, as he believed tbe practice of making presents* tions was carried to too great an extent in this country. At the Bsme time he thanked them very much for their kindnesß. it was very flittering to one's vanity to hear oneself spoken of io such a kindly manner bb he had been spoken of that day. If in endeavoring to do one's duty one was led to make friends he had perhaps made a few in this way. He was glad to see so m any gontlemen present whom ha could count upen as friends. Geraldine would always be remembered by him with pleasure. He had made a longer stay there than at any other place since be came to the colony, and would ever look back to it with pleasant memories. On behalf of Mrs Cunningham and himself he again thanked thess for their great kindness. (Applause). The deputation then withdrew, Mr Cunningham goes to Gere, where be will no doubt soon win for himself a large cirle of friends. The studs and teapot were obtained from Mr J. Mclllroy Geraldine.
