THE TASMANIAN SILVER MINES

The silrer mines which are now being opened up in the Zeehan district of Tasmania are from accounts the richest that hare been heard of in ancient or modern history The reports as to the wealth of the district, so far as it has yet been developed, sound as fabulous; but the information as to the value of the deposits of silver reaches us from such reliable sources that we must accept it as accurate (be reels extend over a le gth of thirty-five miles, and the seam of car bonate ore in the property of the Silver Queen Prospecting Association, which is upwards of twenty fret in width, bulks four hundred ounces of silver to the ton, at North Duudas, close to Zeehan, a sulphate lode ol fifty feet sinking proves to be twelve feet in width, and assays as high as 2800 ouuces of silver and sixty per cent, of lend to the ton. The same claim within the last few days has also proved a carbonate totie in great rich ness. One of our townsmen already proved toe value of these claims, and an opportunity waafforded 10-day to others to purMcipate in the.mineral wealth of the iasmauian silver fields, specimens from the mines mentioned, aud plans of the fields were on view in the reade today, in charge of Vlr W. H Gmndry, broker for the Zealandia Silver Mining iComp ny, which is being formed to jbuy and work one of the original iprospectors’ sections at Du-.das j he specimens were of ex'raordii ary rich mess, and a large numb *p of shares jwere taken up —Ashburton Guardian.
