It is hard to make the people believe it, but the man who accepts a post as chief executive of any of the great . departments of the nation, and does bis duty, is taking his life in his hands. Many of these officials live throuarh the ordeal, but few come out of office in good health, Fo'ger, Manning, and nowWmdom, three victims in less than a decade of devotion to the exacting duties and immense responsibilities of <h<r proper care of the natinua trea ury.
