QEEALDIWR BAOIN& CLUB’S AUIUMN MBBIUSrO. The autumn meeting of this club for 1891 was held at the racecourse, Orari, on Thursday afternoon, and was from evory point of riew a decided success.' The weather, that important factor in' the en-joyiaent of a race meeting, could ‘ scarcely be excelled. The attendance was much larger than has been seen at the club’s meetings for some time, the fields were large, and the racing, ' With about two exceptions, was decidedly good. The financial results to the club are very satisfactory, a very substantial profit having been netted. The club officials would appear to bb ; getting more at home in their duties ' with each meeting, and with the able; assistance of their secretary; Mr F,'‘ i Wilson Smith, everything passed off without the slightest hitch. Mr Meikle weilded the starter’s flag,' ahd did his best to give every horse an equal chance. Mr F. H. Barker, in. the absence of Mr A. M, Clark, filled the; position of judge. Mr W. Homes, the Hilton Hotel, had a monopoly of ' all the booths licensed, and refresh- ' ments consequently, whatever trade ; was going,, aud it appeared fairly brisk, fell to his share. The totalisator was in the hands of Messrs . Hobbs and : Goodwin, who put through £1829. The following are the results. Orari Handicap, of 20 bovs ; 6 furlongs. District race, • at welter weights. The Horses competing in this and the Squatters’ District Handicap must have been owned and tran/ed for three months prior to the meeting between the River Selwyn and thenorth bask of the Horse Range, Oamaru.

Coming into the straight, B-n, under severe punishment, made a game effort to overtake the leader, but the black gelding managed to stave him tff, winning a splendid race by a head. Turning into the straight Ben came up strongly on the outside, and a splendid race took place between (he placed horses. Ben keeping close on Mailboy’s right, the latter’s rider was only able to use his whip On bis mount's shoulder, otherwise there is little doubt Mailboy would have made a still closer finish. Liberator made bis effort at the turn into the straight, but Coinage was not c»lled]upon till half way up the straight, when Kingan drew his whip and landed his mount a winner by a length and a half, Jenny Lind a bad third.
