ST. PARICK’S DAY SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

A general meeting of the members of this Association was held on Thursday evening last at the Crown Hotel, there being a good attendance. The chair »;»3 occupied by the President, Mr R. H. Fearpoint, The chairman explained that the meeting had been called to transact general business and to discuss the question of purchasing the National fljgs. A conversational discussion took place on the subject, a*i the speakers being in favor of the d igs being obtained. One of the members guaranteed on behalf of the Irish portion of the community to present the Association with the Irish National flag. This appeared to rouse the enthusiasm of those present, and another member guaranteed a flig on behalf of Scotland, while a third came forward with a promise of the Union Jack. The following resolution was then carried unanimously, “ That upon such guarantees the Association be empowered to obtain prices for the three flags, and the three guarantors be thereupon communicated with as to coats.’’ It was decided that in future the annual meeting be called during the second week in January in' each year. It was resolved to recommend to the committee that rules and by-laws be drawn up by them to be subm.tted to a special meeting to be called for the consideration of the same ; also, that the committee recommend to hold a series of social meetings during the winter months. The secretary was instructed to write to the secretary of the Temuka Caledonian Society, enquiring as to how they condncted the band contest at their sports gathering. The general meeting then closed, and at a meeting of the committee held afterwards some small accounts were passed for payment.
