ST. JOHN’S CHURCH, WINCHESTER.

Harvest Thanksgiving took place in this church on Easter Sunday. The building was nicely decorated with fruit, flowers, vegetables, etc. At any time this church presents a bright, homely appearance, but with the addition of decorations its beauty in this respect was increased yet more. Mr H. J. Gladstone preached in the morning, The evening service was conducted by the llev. T. A. Hamilton, Incumbent. He selected for his text Psalms cvii., 8, “Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men.” He reminded those present they were met together for two kinds of blessings, spiritual and temporal. He showed how the earth yielded one hundred fold to man for all he sowed. That no matter how great the population, yet the earth returned food in abundancei And yet, for all this plenty, there were hundreds dying of starvation. People were complaining about the great inequality of possessions at the present day. As a remedy we try communism, socialism, etc., but without success. Nor will we ever enjoy a more equal share of the blessings of this life until mankind is filled with more of the loye of Christ.
