GOOD TEMPLARS’ PICNIC.

The picnic held under the auspices of the Good Hope Lodge, 1.0.G.T., Temuka, yesterday, was a pronounced success, and will it is trusted be the precursor of many such gatherings. The officers and members of the lodge met at the Social Hall at about 10 o’clock, where they were joined by the Arowhenua Brass Band, under the leadership of Mr Bryan. After the customary formalities, a procession was formed, headed by the band, and a march was made to Victoria Park. Here a most enjoyable time was spent, visitors being present from kindred lodges at 'J imaru, Pleasant Point, Winchester, and Geraldine. Sports for the little ones were organised, and some capital races for boys were got off, all the officials uniting most assiduously to prsmote the enjoyment of all. The elder ones joined heartily in the round games of the lads and lasses, who were present in nicelyassorted quantities, and the scene in the afternoon, when the fun was at its height, was very pleasant indeed. "Refreshments, both ample and good, were dispensed, and heartily enjoyed, .and the music provided by the band was much appreciated. At about 5 o’clock the members of the several lodges were photographed in a group. This performance elicited some little amusement, the jocose remarks of Bro. Barr and others causing such ripples of smiles and hearty laughter as to upset the photographer’s endeavors to catch the critical moment His task was accomplished after a time, and a good negative resulted. ’Jhe visitors expressed themselves as highly delighted with their reception, and appeared to enjoy the beauties of the park very much. A general dispersion took place shortly after 6 o’clock, In the evening a social gathering was held.
