An unmarried lady, named Maria Ploch, 30 years of age, the daughter of a rich merchant in Berlin, who lives in a grand house in a fashionable quarter, last summer paid a visit to an uncle in Chicago. While there she made the acquaintance of a handsome young negyo, named Albert Eoy, who , is said to be a Prince, and forthwith fell in love with him. The uncle, on becoming aware of his niece’s passion, sent her back to Berlin. The lovers kept up a secret correspondence. The result was that a few weeks ago the negro landed at Hamburg, accompanied by a Chicago German, The love-stricken woman met them at the hotel, carrying with her a bundle of Prussian bonds, of the value of 7000 marks, inherited from her grandfather. | While the lovers were enjoying the first raptures of their reunion the Chicago friend took away the bonds to

get them changed into American money and did not return. Left with nothing for herself or lover to live upon JFrau Ploch was compelled to put herself in communication with her father, who put an end to their romance by bringing his daughter home to Berlin, a sadder if not a wiser woman, after paying the passage of the negro to Chicago. The police meanwhile are looking for the Chicago friend.
