STRANGE STORY FROM TENNESSEE

A correspondent says! Edgar Eamsey, a farmer, who lives four miles from Lick Skillet, in the eastern part of Claiborne County, Tennessee, came into Middleborough one morning recently, and related the following extraordinary story, which he states he is willing to swear to as being true. He avers that on Sunday afternoon he saw a large green-looking cloud Coming from a westerly direction towards his house, while the rain was coming down in torrents. It then suddenly grew very cold, and it commenced to bail, and in less than half an hour it became as dark as night. The wind blew very hard and hailstones fell as large as eggs. All this occurred in the space of one half hour. |jater in the afternnon Jake Warren a neighboring former, galloped to his house at full speed, and begged hip* to go at once and look at the extraordinary transformation which had taken place in his cornfield. All parlies concerned were, however, top frightened to venture out until next day. lyhen, in company with several friends, thp cprnseld was visited, and every stalk of corn was found to have been turned into stone The field was a five acre one, and everything upon it had been petrified,

even to two pigs, who had lingered upon tbe ground. It is claimed that Hundreds of people have visited the place since then, and there is no reason to disbelieve the story as told, remarkable as it is.
