AN ABSCONDING BANK MANAGER.

Sydnky, February 24. Another bank managed has been added to the list of defaulters. A warrant was issued last Tuesday for the arrest of Mr Joaeph R. Bradley, who for some time past has held the position as manager of the English, Scotish, and Australian Chartered Branch, at the corner of hlizibeth and Devonshire streets. Some time ago Bradley's wife left bydney avowedly with the intention of visiting her relations at Windsor. Last Suturday her husband, accompanied by the children, left to join Mrs Bradley, and on Monday the head office received a telegram from Bradley statiDg that owing to a serious illness from which his wife was suffering he would be unable tn return to his duties for a few days. They replied by asking how long he was likely to be away, but the telegram was returned witb an endorsement to tbe effect that Bradley was not in \Vifldßor, and had not been there for some time. Suspicions were then aroused, aod yesterday »n examination of the books and cash at the branch office wbb commenced. It was soon discovered that there was heavy defalcations. When sufficent evidence had been obtained to justify to issue of a warrant the necessary information wis sworn, and the case was placed in the hands of detectives, who so far have been unable to obtain any trace of the absconder. The amount of the defalcations are not yet known. Bradley was only tbirty-tbree years of age, and was in receipt of a salry of £215 per snnum and quarters. He w»s a prominent member of the Bourke street Wesleyan Church, where he had led tbe choir for mary years, and was well known in cricketing circles- Last Saturday afternoon he bad been playing tennis, on the Association cricket ground. He said good-bye to a number of his friends who were present,

and informed them that be was going to take charge of the branch at .Nowra.
