TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above board was held last evening. Present—Messrs J. Blyth (chairman), S. Clinch, P. Coira, U. Maßon, and W. Storey. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From the Ashburton Gas Company, acknowledging receipt of cheque for tar. From Mr M. Quinn, statiog that his lease of premises in Main street having expired, he desired his name removed from the rate roll in respect thereof. From Mr 0. Story, stating that the culvert in front of hia stable had been put down by the Temuka Road Board, and he could not recognise any liability as to enlarging the same.—Mr Storey to receive notice to put down pipes or culvert to meet approval Qf the board, From the Property Ta? Commissioner, asking for forms entitling board to receive 75 per ceDt of subsidy on rates collect? able.—-The clerk had atteoded to the matter. _ 1 From the same, stating that a voucher for £ls 15s for 75 per cent subsidy had been" forwarded to the Treasury for pay, meet. From Messrs Perry aod Perry, as agents for the property occupied by Mr B<?n, stating that they had arranged to have asphalting done in front of those premises, and approving of suggestion re carrying away surplus water. From Messrs Monaghao and Laiog, asking for a payment in reaped ai asphalting 1» terfflg o* agreement, From Messrs A.spinall and Salmond, forwardiDg leaae in duplicate for right-of-way into premises cooupied by Messrs Aspioall aud Co. and others.—The same to recaive the board's seal. ALLNUW STREET, Mr Storey drew attention to the footpath in Allnutt Street. A ditch had been
cut across a portion of it near Mr Preddy's. Ibe overseer was instructed to attend to the matter, and rep3rt oo footpath at next meeting, VINE STREET. Mr Coiradrew attention to some hollows in Vine Street, caused, he believed, by water from Messrs Aepin»ll and Co.'a grain sl.ed. The water would reqoire to be taken to the water-table or culvert. It was resolved that several members of the board view the place at an early opportunity. oyebseeb's EEPOET. The overseer's report was to the following effect : Captain Henry, of the Fire Brigade, had been applied to for further information as to the brigade's requirements. Several new culverts bad been fixed ; ethers that needed repair bad also been attended to. He drew attention to the necessity for more waterway «t the culvert at Mr C, Story's. Fair progress hud been made with the asphalt contract. The kerbing at Mr McLeod's corner had also been completed. The asphalt was finished except the final coat of tar, and had been duly measured. A list of unpaid rates and rents had been prepared, and was laid upon the table. Attention was drawn to the present contracts for lighting and removal of nightsoil. Both were now nearly due. Attention was also drawn to straying of cattle on the streets. He also reported on the number of dogs registered.
UNREGISTERED DOGS. 1 Some question arose as to the method to be adopted to compel registration. After considerable discussion it was resolved that the clerk instruct the police to t»ke logal proceedings to compel registration of all dogs is the town district. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £36 9s 7d were passed for payment in respect of general accounts, apd £SO 19s 7d in respect of asphalting. LIGHTING CONTRACT. The question of the lamplighting contract was considared. It »a<s reeolved that the present lamplighter be reappointed in terms of his contract. NHtBTSOIL CONTRACT. It was resolved—" That the present contractor for removal of nightsoilbe reappointed at previous r»te, and subject to usual conditions." The meeting then terminated.
