SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
ART7HDEI.. The monthly meeting pf the above committee was held on Satufday evening. Present—Messrs A W Campbell (chairman), S Pithie, J Charles, GHibbard. and H Woodley. BOAHD OF EDUCATION. Correspondence was read from the Board of Education stating that Messrs John Talbot, M Gray, R H Pearpoint, "W Baif our and G H Rhodes had been nominated to fill the vacancies caused by the retirement of one-third of its members, and requesting the committee to vote for three ef them.—On the motion of Mr Campbell, seconded by Mr Hibbard, it was resolved to
vote for Messrs E H Pearpoint, John Talbot, and M Gray. A letter was read from the same requesting the committee to nominate one person to fill the vacancy caused by the lamented death of Mr Barker, and one from Mr W Storep intimating that he was a candidate for the position of member of the South Canterbury Board of Education rendered vacant by the death of the late Mr Barker.—On ;he motion of Mr Campbell, seconded by Mr Charles, it was resolved to nominate Mr William Storey fo> the vacancy. A letter was read from the board requesting the committee to nominate oDe person to fill the vacancv caused I by the retirement of the Eev. Mr Barclay.—There being no person to nominate it was resolved to notify the same to the board. FENCING. A letter was received from the board notifying that the cost of fencing the Bchool Bite was granted, and that the sum would be paid on voucher when work would be done. JANITOB. Mrs Cook and Mrs Quaid tendered for the work of cleaning of the school, but the committee, taking into consideration the smallness of the school considered the tenders were too high, and it was decided not to accept either of them. teacher's eepoet. The teacher's report was read, and found to be satisfactory. Everything was going on most satisfactorily, considering the school has not long been open. VISITOB. Mr Charles was appointed visitor for the month. MONEY WANTED. The accounts were presented for payment, and it was again resolved to apply for incidentals and the meeting terminated. ORARI BRIDGE. lhe monthly meeting of this committee was held on Saturday evening. Present—MessrsGHelem, J Wharton, A Maedonald, A McLean, and W Hewson The master reported an average attendance of 34 for the past four weeks, and handed in £1 7s 3d for books sold A letter was received from the Board of Education covering the inspector's report on the examination of the school, The results were very satisfactory. The inspector's remarks were as follows : —standard VII.: Two pupils. Both passed, with much credit, in the work set for Standard VI. Class P. : The reading, spelling, and tables of the preparatory classes are geod, and the writing is fair; the order, tone, and attention are quite satisfactory The board also advised the committee of £3 10s, incidentals for the quarter, having been deposited to their credit Accounts to the amount of £llss 9d were passed for payment Mr McLean was appointed visitor, and the meeting terminated.
